Message from Act Up Paris
Dear all
8 activists from Act Up-Paris have been arrested this afternoon in Basel (Switzerland), in front of Novartis’office. They were protesting against Novartis’s case against India.
The protest was peaceful, the activists were not blocking the entry or the traffic, they were standing on the sidewalk. We didn’t get anynews from 4 PM (local time of the action) to 10 PM when at least a police officer called us back in Paris telling us they were detained (charges unknown), that they will be heard by a judge tomorrow morning, that they cannot phone. We don’t know if they have access to a lawyer or to a doctor – some of them are living with HIV/Aids.
We will issue a press release (in French first) in few hours and hope we can count on your solidarity. Of course, if you can let people from the Global Fund, the IAS or Switzerland’s government know about the situation, please do.
Jérôme Martin, Act Up-Paris
